City holds Food Fair

The Dumaguete City government, through the City Nutrition Council and the City Agriculture Office, held the Food Fair 2011 at the Quezon park as part of the culmination program of the Nutrition Month Celebration.

The Nutrition Month celebrations this year on the theme “Pagkain ng Gulay Ugaliin, Araw-Araw itong Ihain”.

City Administrator William Ablong lauded the efforts of the City Nutrition Council, including information drives on eating vegetables, and the Food Fair.

During the Food Fair, different root crops, products and vegetables from 25 out of 30 barangays in the City were displayed at Quezon Park.

Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria said the City government will support the programs initiated by the City Nutrition Office to see to it that every individual gets proper nutrition.

He said the City Agriculture Office has a program for the farmers called Plow Now, Pay Later to make the City sufficient in food production.

The activity culminated with the awarding of the winners in the following: Cooking Contest: 3rd place-Vilma Cabonelas of barangay Balugo, 2nd place-Nicole Larena of barangay Motong, 1st place- Chona Catapusan of barangay Bunao.

Booth Contest: 3rd place-barangay Junob, 2nd place-barangay Cadawinonan, 1st place- barangay Bajumpandan.

Well-Baby Contest: 3rd place- Ember Grachela Ibero of barangay Batinguel, 2nd place-Wolfgang Victor Ablong of barangay Cadawinonan, 1st place- Zyd Kynne Casinto of barangay Calindagan.

Day Care Center Nutrition Corner: 3rd place- Taclobo Banikanhon, 2nd place- Candau-ay Scandinavian, 1st palce- Cantil-e School Base.

Day Care Center School Garden Contest (Urban Category): 3rd-place- Piapi, 2nd place- Pulantubig, 1st place-Tabuc-tubig.

(Rural Category): 3rd place- Northern Junob, 2nd place- Talay Bliss, 1st place- Cantil-e Habitat. (PIO)
