The City Government of Dumaguete through the City Nutrition Office has lined up several activities for this year’s Nutrition Month celebration.

City Nutrition Action Officer Lourdes Taburaza said the Nutrition Month celebration kicked off July 2 with vegetables planting activities in different daycare centers and elementary schools in the City.

This year’s theme is Pagkain ng Gulay Ugaliin, Araw-Araw itong Ihain.

Taburaza said the theme focuses on the importance of vegetables in a healthy diet, to address micronutrient deficiency, and prevent non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and diabetes.

Other highlights during the month of July includes: the yearly Nutri-Fit Walk on Sunday, July 8 at 5:30am, the Nutrition Caravan on July 17, Diabetes Forum on July 20, Inter-High Oratorical Contest on July 23, Well Baby Contest on July 27.

Nutrition Month is observed every July of each year pursuant to Presidential Decree 491, in a bid to focus attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits, Taburaza said. (PIO)
