City joins Nutrition Month celebration

The City Government of Dumaguete through the City Nutrition Council has lined up several activities for this year’s Nutrition Month celebration.

City Nutrition Action Officer Lourdes Taburaza said the Nutrition Month celebration will kick off on July 7 with a Nutri-fit walk at 5:30 in the morning along city streets and it will end at the Freedom Park ground.

Taburaza said that during the Nutri-fit walk, the walkers are divided in three divisions with different starting points. For division A at Rizal boulevard area, division B at the Looc By-Pass Road, and division C at Robinson’s Place.

There will be awarding after the walk for the following categories: Biggest Contingent (school, office, barangay, organization and cooperative categories), Most Creative Group, Most Disciplined/Organized Group, Biggest Group Donor (office/organization, schools), and Best in Slogan.

For the Best Slogan contest, one entry per contingent is allowed, and the dimension should not be bigger than one cartolina. This year’s theme is Gutom at Malnutrisyon, Sama-sama Nating Wakasan.

Taburaza said the objectives of this year’s celebration are to increase awareness on hunger issues and actions to mitigate hunger and malnutrition; encourage stakeholders to contribute in addressing hunger issues, and to advocate for stronger political action to end hunger.

Other highlights during the month of July includes: Nutrition Caravan on July 11,16 and 18; Well Baby Contest on July 19; Inter-High School Oratorical Contest on July 26; Food Fair (Inter-Barangay Booth Contest, Cooking Contest), and Day Care Nutrition Corner Contest on July 25; Healthy Blood Pressure forum on July 25; Day Care School Garden Contest on July 26.

Meanwhile, Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria encouraged City Hall employees to join the nutri-fit walk and other activities as the yearly activities on the nutrition month celebration. (PIO)
