The City Health Workers pinned a small red ribbon on all City Hall employees Dec. 1st, as the city joined the world in celebrating World AIDS Day.
The celebration is a yearly activity worldwide to create awareness regarding the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS).
The city government, through the City Health Office headed by Dr. Sarah Talla, urged business establishments, government offices, NGOs, and the public to display the red ribbon and wear red to show care for AIDS and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) patients.
The red ribbon is the international symbol for AIDS awareness, which is actually worn by advocates year-round to demonstrate care and concern about HIV and AIDS, and remind everyone of the need for support and commitment, according to Dr. Talla.
Dr. Talla further said the City is joining the celebration yearly to remind the victims of HIV/AIDS that the government sympathizes with them and is one with in finding solutions to the problem.
The program on Dec. 9 will start at 4:30 in the afternoon at the Quezon park with Dr. Noel de Jesus, Council chairperson on Health, giving the message. (PIO)
