The Honorable City Mayor Manuel T. Sagarbarria never gave orders of stopping the projects of the City Development Council. On-going projects initiated by the Barangay Officials of various barangays in Dumaguete City which are basically approved and are in line with CDC’s goals and objectives cannot be stopped nor be delayed due to its high level of urgency.

Honorable Vice Mayor Alan Gel S. Cordova was only expressing his concern saying that “implementing projects approved by the City Development Council without the approval of the city council is totally wrong.” Adding that “this practice should be stopped.” This has developed during his dialogue with the City Mayor, in which the chief executive responded by saying that “this procedure had been around for the last 21 years, we merely inherited the practice.”

Nevertheless, the Honorable Mayor concerted on the sentiments expressed by the Legislative Branch, “as a councilor for 3 consecutive terms, I perfectly understand your concern,” the mayor added. With this in progress, in the coming projects of the City Government of Dumaguete shall coarse thru the city council for scrutiny and approval and for the purpose of check and balance, but putting a halt on all on-going projects is never in the vocabulary of the Honorable City Mayor.

On the other hand, the boulevard extension or board walk project would be costing as per estimate to about 23 million pesos which is now in progress, not 3 million as reported previously in the MetroPost.

However, crime volume in Dumaguete City has reduced to 301. The crime volume as per report in 2010 is 596 while in 2011 same period from January to May is 295. Therefore, crime volume in this city is highly manageable and that our dear city remains peaceful, orderly, and is still the prepared destination for tourism and investment.
