Public bidding for the purchase of two brand new garbage compactors and four dump trucks will commence within the 1st quarter of 2017.
Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo hopes that the purchase will put an end to the frequent breakdown of units under the Environment & Natural Resources Office tasked to collect the city’s garbage in all 30 barangays.
Since the units will be brand new, Remollo said he believes it will at least ensure efficient collection of garbage in the next 10 years.
Amid complaints of mounting trash that remain uncollected, the administration has adopted a new scheme, which maximizes the use of other trucks from other departments, while adjusting the collection time schedule to avoid escalating the traffic congestion in the downtown area.
While the law cites it is the primary role of the barangays to segregate, collect and dispose garbage within their jurisdictions, the City government said they will do their best to assist keeping the City clean and green.
Remollo has appealed for the barangay officials and the public to wait until the procurement process is completed in strict adherence to all applicable laws and regulations by the Commission on Audit designed to keep the purchase transparent, legal, and above board.
“It is the policy of my administration to consult the Commission on Audit, seek the auditors’ guidance and clearance in all transactions and expenditures of public funds to avoid incurring Notice of Disallowances,” Remollo stressed. (City PIO)
