Demolition of illegally-built structures along the banks of the Banica River in Dumaguete is in the offing after an on-the—spot inspection conducted by elements of Task Force SAGARR on Wednesday morning.
Task Force team leader Joey Abella, however, said, even if these structures are illegally—built, owners are still accorded due process, by first issuing them warning letters for compliance.
Failure to heed the call for the voluntary removal will force the city to enforce existing ordinances.
Findings showed that a number of structures are blocking the dikes while others are protruding to the river, posing danger to lives and properties when floods come.
Task Force SAGARR ground commander William Ablong has issued mission orders for team members to issue warnings to illegal settlers with compassion and respect, saying both sides of the Banica River are considered as high risk areas.
Meanwhile, eight ambulant vendors were rounded up along Colon Street on Wednesday morning for violating existing ordinances.
When interviewed, the ambulant vendors said they are from Bacong town, about 20 minutes drive south of this capital city. (PNA/Juancho Gallarde)
