About 3, 000 workers in the informal sector, who are accredited by the City’s Sectoral Desk, will each receive P 2, 500 as cash assistance after losing income due to the disruption caused by the threat of COVID-19.
Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo said that the total amount of P 7.5 million will be taken from the Quick Respond Fund following the declaration of a state of calamity. This will probably be the first batch of recipients.
Sectoral Desk Officer Albert Aquino said that the recipients have already been identified as members of the 21 associations of ambulant vendors; 33 organizations of tricycle drivers; 9 associations of massage therapists; 1 association of porters in the city’s pier and 1 association of blind masseurs.
The City Social Welfare and Development Office will prepare the payrolls for the eventual release of the cash assistance which will be announced later.
Meanwhile, volunteers from the Filipino-Chinese Fire Brigade teamed up with personnel from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of the City’s Inter-Agency Task Force COVID-19 to disinfect the major streets and public places this evening using the fire engines.
Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo, Chairperson of the City’s Task Force, said that the teams will continue to disinfect public places and streets daily until the threat of COVID-19 will be eliminated.
Among the areas that were disinfected were the city hall compound, churches, hospitals, city pier, streets, malls, stores, parks, government offices and other public places. (PR)
