Vice Mayor Estanislao “Eslao” Alviola said the new City Council will strive to be an “open Council”, where there will be no majority nor minority members.
In an interview, Alviola said that as presiding officer, “I have to be fair to everyone. We just need open communication to prevent misunderstanding.”
He welcomed reports that Councilor Frank “GG” Esmeña Jr., who ran with the opposing Team Lupad, has indicated his willingness to work with the Sagarbarria-Alviola administration.
Meanwhile, Alviola said the incoming leadership will address the challenge of streamlining the workforce.
He said Job Order employees, whose contracts have ended, can apply again for new contracts beginning June.
“Effective June 30, we will assist applicants, with the aim of matching their skills with the jobs [available].
“We hope to address that mismatch gradually to make our government more efficient, and to maximize the potentials of the workers,” Alviola said.
He said there are two paradigms in working: “You work because you love to work; or you work because you have to. There’s a big difference between the two.”
He said the workers will have to love their jobs because if they are qualified and are accepted, they could be on their jobs for the next nine years.
“We need the cooperation of the workers. Mayor-elect Chiquiting and I will take on that challenge on how to instill love for work. The loyalty of the workers should be to their jobs, and not to the politicians.” (AP)
