The city government of Dumaguete conducted a successful city-wide clean-up Saturday in all 30 barangays in the city during which anti-mosquito chemicals were applied in areas identified as breeding grounds of dengue-carrying mosquitoes.
The launching program of the city’s Anti-Dengue Campaign was held in Barangay Bajumpandan with all the Rotary Clubs of the city and city officials headed by Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria and barangay officials.
Saturdays’s launching is part of the quarterly application of the larvaecide, the second application of which will be on Oct 26-27, the third in Jan 4-5 next year and the fourth on April 12-13, 2014, according to Dr. Maria Sarah Talla, City Health Officer.
Former Valencia Mayor Rodolfo Gonzales, the District Governor of Rotary Club 3860, said the anti-dengue campaign is part of their community involvement to fight against the mosquitoes virus called dengue.
Gonzalez and his fellow Rotarians declared war against dengue during the weekend activity.
For his part, Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria lauded the efforts of the all Rotary Club members in the city by helping the city government fight against the dengue virus.
He also urged organizations as well as the entire community to help the city’s campaign against dengue. (PNA/JFP)
