Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe Remollo has ordered business establishments to close at 8 p.m. effective March 18 to minimize the possibility of spreading COVID-19.

City Public Information Officer Dems Demecillo said the mayor has issued Executive Order No. 14 which directs commercial establishments, internet cafes, flea market, food stalls, paunay, bars, movie houses, theaters, food stalls, theatre, and restaurants to cease operation by 8:00 p.m. until 8:00 a.m.

The order also orders the said business establishments to sanitize their premises as a precautionary measure against COVID-19.

In a separate directive, the city public market will be operating from 4:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. daily.

Demecillo added that “personnel from the City Economic Enterprise Department and City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office conduct regularly disinfection activity of the various buildings and stalls inside the market to keep the facilities COVID-19 free.”

Just this week, Remollo issued Executive Order No. 14 ordering public and private establishments in the city to disinfect their buildings at least twice a day.

Sanitation teams hired by the city government has already disinfected hospitals, churches, parks, city hall compound, and the city streets.

All offices inside the city hall compound have also been disinfected.

Early this week, the provincial government here already declared a state of calamity in view of COVID-19.

Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo has also ordered several measures to prevent the spread of the virus in the province including closure of airport, seaports, and its borders and the imposition of curfew hours every night.

The City Government of Dumaguete, being the capital of the province, has also initiated precautionary measures to protect the residents of the city from the dreaded virus. (ral/PIA7-NegOr)
