The 30 barangays (villages) of this city will be clustered into three groups to avail of the mobile fire-fighting units the city hopes to acquire, an official said on Monday.
Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer (DRRMO) Rizal Benatiro said the bidding for the mobile fire-fighting units is expected to be done within the year.
Every mobile fire-fighting unit is equipped with a water tank and pump with a hose placed in a trailer that can be pulled by any vehicle within the barangay in case of fire alarms, he said.
It is designed to suppress fire at the early stage before the arrival of the fire trucks and even put out a fire in a barangay.
Benatiro said also part of the program is the acquisition of emergency response vehicles that are equipped with sirens and communications equipment.
The villages will have to shoulder the communications equipment for the mobile firefighting units, including a base radio, he said. (Juancho Gallarde)
