Commissioner Andres Bautista of the Commission on Elections has told local officials of the poll body in Negros Oriental to continue with the preparations for the upcoming barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in October.
Bautista breezed in to Dumaguete City Thursday afternoon from nearby Siquijor Island for an unexpected visit here, said Atty. Eddie Aba, Negros Oriental provincial election supervisor.
Atty. Aba on Friday disclosed that the Comelec commissioner’s visit here was not official but a sidetrip from Siquijor, where he led the directors meeting there.
While in Dumaguete, Bautista met with the different election officers and employees where he also gave an assessment of the 2016 elections during dinner hosted by the local Comelec, said Aba.
He thanked them and at the same time asked for inputs on how to improve in the coming barangay and SK elections.
According to Atty. Aba, Bautista told them to move ahead with the preparations for the October 31 synchronized barangay and SK polls even though it is not clear yet whether this will be postponed or not.
Bautista returned to Manila Friday afternoon, Aba said. (Judy Flores Partlow)
