The Order of the Knights of Rizal-Negros Oriental Chapter celebrated the commemoration of the 123rd martyrdom of Dr. Jose P. Rizal in activities at Quezon Park led by the City government of Dumaguete, in partnership with the Department of Education and the 11th IB of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Guest speaker was Supreme Court Associate Justice Edgardo Delos Santos, who initially served as municipal trial court judge in Dumaguete.

The theme was Jose Rizal: Huwaran ng Pilipino sa Ikadalawampu’t Isang Siglo.

The Provincial and City officials led the Councilors in offering wreaths at the newly-restored Jose Rizal statue.

Various government offices participated in the event, like the Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine National Police, the Bureau of Jail Management & Penology, the Fire Department, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Liga ng mga Barangay, and the City Tourism Office.

Charles Ezra Anthony Tuozo, Knights of Rizal chapter commander; Penn Larena, deputy chapter commander, and Judge Rafael Crescencio Tan Jr., chapter chancellor, led other civic organizations in marking the event. Present were the Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippines-Mount Kaladias Lodge 91, Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts of the Philippines, the Rizal Youth Club, Philippine Red Cross, Army Reserve, Office of Senior Citizens Affairs, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Veterans Federation of the Philippines, Sons and Daughters Association Inc., Dumaguete Lions Club, Foundation University, Silliman University, and St. Paul University Dumaguete.

The Order of the Knights of Rizal is now accepting more members. Qualifications include: male, Filipino or foreigner, of good moral character and reputation, believer in the teachings of Dr. Jose P. Rizal, and willing to learn more about Rizal and follow his teachings. (PR)
