Community benefits from medical mission

The Department of Agrarian Reform conducted a Surgical, Dental and Optical Mission with Blood Diagnostics in barangay Tabuan, Bayawan City.

About 1,000 came for various operations. Residents from Tabuan and neighboring barangays were attended by the team of 13 medical doctors, five surgeons, 10 registered nurses, three medical technologists, four registered social workers, and volunteers from Kapwa Ko, Mahal Ko.

Medicines were provided to those who had minor operations like cyst, dental extraction and circumcision.

On the same day, the Community Based School Development Project was launched. The identified one hectare land within the barangay will be the site for Brgy. Tabuan Agricultural Elementary School. This project will be funded by the Department of Education and the Society of the Divine Word.

Simultaneous with the medical mission was the distribution of school supplies donated by Batch 78 of the University of Cebu for the elementary students of Tabuan. Other school needs were sold at half the regular price. Proceeds of the sale will go back to the barangay as funds for the construction of the school.

This will be the first ever elementary school where agriculture subjects will be introduced as part of the curriculum.

Present during the one-day activity were DAR 7 Regional Director Rodolfo Inson and PARO Ma. Lourdes Mariano, PARO Stephen Leonidas with officials and staff of DAR provincial and municipal offices.

The medical mission was also held in conjunction with the Tabuan Agrarian Reform Farmer Beneficiaries Association. (PR)
