The City Bids and Awards Committee chaired by City Legal Officer Doram T. Dumalagan has selected the Joint Venture of Jaime B. Ching Enterprises and Supreme Mega Structure Builders Inc. to build the P20 million bridge linking Colon Street with barangay Bagacay.
The bid of the joint venture emerged as the Lowest Calculated and Responsive bid, from among the bids of two other companies–Uy Condev Corporation and PhilSouth Builders, that submitted bids at P 20, 889, 692.52 and P 20, 894, 695.80, respectively.
With the selection of the winning bidder, Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo is expected to issue the Notice to Proceed within 10 days that will allow the contractor to begin the construction of the bridge.
A statement from City Hall said it saved P4.4 million from the project, because they had initially appropriated P24.7 million for the bridge.
The bridge will replace the damaged spillway at the back of Foundation University in Colon Extension, which, according to Mayor Remollo will ensure the safety of the motorists and residents even in the event of floods and heavy downpour while decongesting traffic in the downtown area.
In recommending for the contract to be awarded to the joint venture company, BAC members noted that the Technical Working Group found that three bridge project undertaken by the JV in Himamaylan, Negros Occidental, Pangaloan in Jimalalud and in Tampocon, Ayungon, all the bridges are open to traffic and in passable conditions. The bridges also implemented the DPWH standards and found no defects as to physical appearances. It was also learned that another bridge project in Suay, Negros Oriental had no record of slippage during construction.
Upon the instruction of Mayor Remollo, the BAC will conduct public bidding for the other bridge near the Bureau of Internal Revenue also in Taclobo that is estimated to cost about P 50 million. (PR)
