This year has been as eventful as it could. From unexpected national disasters alongside with the exposure of corruption in the system made it almost unbearable for everyone. What is resilience? Is it getting back up again after one falls? When one rises up after a tumultuous experience, it is never the same.
“The man who comes back through the Door in the Wall will never be quite the same as the man who went out. He will be wiser but less sure, happier but less self-satisfied, humbler in acknowledging his ignorance yet better equipped to understand the relationship of words to things, of systematic reasoning to the unfathomable mystery which it tries, forever vainly, to comprehend” — Aldous Huxley
As the year closes, I contemplate on some ideas. I reckon all these negative occurrences have a promising impact on everyone’s lives. We always have room and the capacity to grow together or we can continue to dwindle down to the inevitable entropy of life. Here are a few things that I’d like to point out.
Control. The only person that matters with regards to control is one’s self. Other than that, we have almost no control. If we try to have it our way, it is usually short lived. It may be prolonged but sooner or later the universe conspires. This will repeat over and over again until we learn from it.
Acceptance. Letting go of the past and moving forward is easier said than done. Everyone goes through this and heavy baggages can be very difficult to overcome especially if we choose to continue and live with the thoughts, things or people that aggravate our being. Man is fragile and fearful but these can be overcome. It is difficult but possible.
Uncertainty. “I took a test in Existentialism. I left all the answers blank and got 100.” —Woody Allen. This is very important to constantly think about. I meet a lot of people who seem to be sure of themselves. And, in my humble opinion, this can be quite dangerous. We try to hide our ignorance by focusing on what we want to achieve but we usually overlook other possibilities. In the end, we get something else that might be even better than what we originally planned for.
With all that said, I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and an awesome New Year ahead. Wherever we go, there we are.
