Coo to head Knights of Rizal

The Order of the Knights of Rizal in Dumaguete recently elected a new set of officers to be headed by Chapter Commander Dr. Kenneth Coo, a noted nephrologist and head of the Oriental Negros Emergency Rescue Foundation Inc. (ONE Rescue).

Dr. Coo will serve together with Deputy Commander Dr. Cesar Estrope, Chancellor Dr. Jake Macahig, Pursuivant Reu Ismil, Deputy Pursuivant Leo Ross Dionaldo, Exchequer Dr. Gerard Jude Bumanglag, Deputy Exchequer Fermar Macatiguib, Auditor Dr. Greg Bacay, Archivist Prof. Carlos Magtolis Jr., and Khent Nino Carmelotes as member.

Present during the elections was Council of Elders member Dr. Henry Sojor.

The new officers and members of the KoR Dumaguete were recruited by Negros Oriental Chapter spread head Commander Charles Ezra Anthony Tuozo, Deputy Commander Penn Larena, and Chancellor Rafael Crescencio Tan.

The new set of officers will initiate a “re-chartering” of the Dumaguete City Chapter after 25 years of inactivity as a civic organization.

The Knights of Rizal in Dumaguete was established in 1967 by Pablo Corsino.

On Feb. 15 is the Knighting, Elevating,Exalting, and Re-Chartering of the Dumaguete City Chapter, together with the new members of the Aduana chapter from Cebu province, and awarding of the winners of the Negros Oriental Rizal Essay Writing Contest. The event is supported by the National Supreme Council of the Order of the Knights of Rizal in Manila.

Some of the major accomplishments of the Negros Oriental Chapter include: the celebration of the birth of Dr. Jose Rizal on June 19 at Quezon Park and the holding of the Boy Scouts Forum during Filipino Values Month in November together with the BSP Negros Oriental-Siquijor Council.

The Order of the Knights of Rizal was created to honor and uphold the ideals of the Philippine national hero, and to initiate among the community the values of preserving nationalism, love of country, and appreciation of love of heritage and history. They live by the motto Non Omnis Moriar. (PR)
