The Perpetual Help Community Cooperative, Inc. has lined up projects this year for its community development program in Negros Oriental, an official said on Thursday.
Rex Rastica, PHCCI’s chief marketing officer, said in an interview that the Cooperative’s community development program is equivalent to the corporate social responsibility program of private entities.
“Republic Act 9520 or the Cooperative Code of 2008 states that part of the undistributed net surplus of the cooperative will be allocated for community development,” he said.
PHCCI’s net surplus in 2024 was pegged at P300 billion, which means P9 million is set aside for its Community Development Fund.
In late January, PHCCI distributed around P2 million in relief goods to residents of Canlaon City, Negros Oriental and of La Castellana in Negros Occidental who were displaced by the eruption of Mt. Kanlaon on Dec. 9.
The beneficiaries included 2,000 for La Castellana, and 1,000 in Canlaon City who were given relief goods, including rice and canned goods, in evacuation centers as identified by the local government units.
PHCCI has lined up programs and projects such as traffic lights in the City, huge ceiling fans for churches, and the solarization of areas across the Province.
Rastica said the PHCCI also has excess amount in the Community Development Fund from previous years, and has partnered with various organizations for their community projects. (Judy F. Partlow/PNA)
