Acting Provincial Police Director of Negros Oriental Sr. Supt. Henry Biñas on Thursday admitted that a number of police personnel in the Province are under suspicion of illegal drugs involvement.

Sr. Supt. Biñas, however, did not disclose any names but confirmed that these policemen are mostly drug users while some of them are receiving money from drug personalities in areas where illegal drugs trade is still rampant.

According to him, he supports the directive of the Philippine National Police Chief, Director General Ronald dela Rosa, to rid the ranks of erring policemen who persist in their involvement in the illegal drugs trade.

According to Biñas, he has already warned these policemen to stop their illicit practices and change their ways before it is too late.

There is still time to change because the PNP organization is giving its personnel a chance to give up their old ways, he said.

Biñas said he has reminded them of the harmful effects of illegal drug use as well as the consequences it has on families.

The Police Director also pointed out that some policemen in Negros Oriental have been reassigned to other areas outside of the province in previous years due to their involvement in illegal drugs.

He said he cannot keep on reminding these police personnel because they are old enough to understand the consequences but definitely there will be strict sanctions imposed if they ignore the warnings. (Judy F. Partlow)
