Dumaguete City Councilor Nelson Patrimonio has pushed for the acquisition of closed-circuit television cameras which will be installed in strategic places, including the City Hall premises.

Patrimonio made the endorsement following an incident whereby the vehicle of City Accountant Lourdes Algopera was vandalized in broad daylight.

Patrimonio said it is high time for the City to acquire the CCTV cameras and that the P25 million allocation for the purchase of the CCTV cameras will be realized next year using local funds.

Councilor Antonio Remollo, meanwhile, is pushing for a review of the security services contract of the security guards at the Dumaguete City Hall.

Remollo said if the blue guards cannot secure the personal belongings of City Hall employees against malicious mischief and vagrants, how much more for the general public.

Councilor Lilani Ramon suggested that an independent body should investigate the incident.

Councilor JV Imbo said the incident is a very bad indication of security breach, not to mention previous theft incidents at City Hall.

Councilor Manny Arbon said a review of the contract is necessary to determine not only the culprits but the capability of guards to secure the City Hall premises. (PNA/JG)
