The Dumaguete City Police Station has noted a drop in crime by one-fifth in the past six weeks, from Oct. 1st to Nov. 7.
The City Peace and Order Council, presided by Councilor Rey Lyndon Lawas, noted in last Tuesday’s meeting, that there were 70 crimes reported compared to 91 incidents in the same period of 2022.
Compared to last year’s data, there were no homicide, murder, robbery, carnapping, rape and rape with homicide cases for the same period that included the roughly week-long holiday in observance of Undas.
On the other hand, the City Health Office reported that of the total 905 surrenderees or “People who Use Drugs” in 2017, about 334 or 37 percent have completed their assessment as of Nov. 7.
No “People who Use Drugs” was reported in Poblacion 4, Poblacion 5 and Poblacion 7, which are drug-free barangays, while Poblacion 6 was deemed drug-cleared.
Common reasons for low or no response to assessment are the change of address, unknown whereabouts, conflict in work schedule and imprisonment of the “People who Use Drugs”.
Meanwhile, the Dumaguete City Peace and Order Council was recognized as among those that passed the regional Performance Audit of its functionality for the Year 2022 conducted by the Department of Interior & Local Government.
Among the factors considered during the performance audit included organization, meetings, plans, budgets, policies, reports, general supervision, innovations, effectiveness in addressing criminality issues, citizen’s satisfaction on peace and order and public safety and women’s participation. (PR)
