The Dumaguete City Anti-Drug Abuse Council chaired by Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria last week lunched the comprehensive and holistic approach in curbing the drug menace in the City of Dumaguete.
Members of the Council, who represent the different sectors of society, maintain that the supply-demand efforts of the drugs must be consistently sustained, and should be taken as everybody’s duty and responsibility.
Other programs discussed are the after-care of victims through the Therapeutic Community, Alcoholics Anonymous, and Narcotics Anonymous to be recognized as part of the concerted efforts of the Council.
To date, the Council is focused on prevention as a crime-deterent, while not discounting the implementation of strategies and programs on the reduction of supply.
The Council had also recently reorganized the Barangay Anti- Drug-Abuse Council, whose function is to create plans and programs that would safeguard their respective barangays against the proliferations of illicit drugs and to protect their young people from being victimized.
The mass induction of BADAC officers from the 30 barangays in the City is scheduled on Aug. 26 at the Dumaguete City High School gymnasium.
School-based organizations of the Anti- Drug Abuse Council will also soon recognize its outstanding students in various year levels.
Meanwhile, a Youth Ambassadors Club will be organized in each of the 30 barangays, with at least two anti-drug advocates representing every purok. This is the challenge of SK President Cyril Mapili.
The Council is contemplating on having an inter-agency committee composed of the different agencies in government, private and business sectors, including the religious groups.
