The Bureau of Customs sub-port of Dumaguete is identified is one of the model tax collection offices in Central Visayas after consistently exceeding the annual collection target. The sub-port of Dumaguete has is the smallest coverage area under the Cebu Port District.
According to Dr. Medolita Cabanag, chief collector of BoC sub-port of Dumaguete, the staff of Cebu Port District and sub-port of Mactan will be coming to Dumaguete on October 22 for a study tour and learning experience in hitting the tax collection target.
Cabanag said she is humbled by the observation of her colleagues because Dumaguete is such a small place compared to Mactan and Cebu.
The Bureau of Customs (BoC) Dumaguete has collected a total of P147,158 million from January to September. The collection has exceeded almost 50 percent of the annual target tax collection for Dumaguete which is only P75 million.
Cabanag said they are expecting another increase in their tax collection since October to December is considered good months for tax collection effort of the Bureau of Customs.
Among the biggest tax contributors are the palm oil importation of the Dumaguete Coconut Oil Mills Incorporated (DUCOMI), Orica Nitrates and Pryce Gas.
Cabanag said she is thankful to these top three importers because it is where the Bureau of Customs can collect their much needed tax duties. (PNA/ JFP/Maricar Aranas)
