The Department of Agriculture — RFO7 turned over P3.5 million worth of agricultural tramline facility to Mabunao Proper Farmers Association in Brgy. Mabunao, Bais City, Negros Oriental on October 1, 2019.

The tramline facility is seen to address the long-time problem of transporting the agricultural produce and products in Brgy. Mabunao, a mountain barangay in Bais City where different crops abound.

The tramline will save around 20 minutes of travelling time from the usual 30 minutes of transport from point A in sitio Guintohogan to Mabunao proper where the delivery truck waits.

“Aside from reducing travel time, it will also lessen our burden and decrease post-harvest losses. We will be able to produce quality products in the market with less burden. Words can’t express how grateful we are for this blessing”, said Manuel Mendez, the Mabunao Proper Farmers Association president.

Aside from the tramline, the agency also turned over the barangay nursery amounting to P180 thousand and the P550 thousand worth Spring Development Project.

“The Spring Development Project has irrigated around 3.7 hectares. While we were able to propagate almost 6,000 cacao seedlings last year because of the nursery”, Brgy. Captain Roger Amador explained.

DA-7 Regional Executive Director Atty. Salvador Diputado acknowledged the eagerness of the association to embrace DA projects. He also announced the upcoming Sustainable Corn Production in Sloping Areas (SCoPSA) project in the area worth P300 thousand.

Diputado encouraged the local government of Mabunao to submit more project proposals to the agency. “DA has more than enough budget for our farmers, all you have to do is request, submit proposals, so our team can validate”, he added.

Also present during the activity were Negros Oriental Provincial Board Member Mariant Villegas and Bais City Mayor Mercy Goñi, who promised to continue allowing one hauling truck to transport agri products from brgy. Mabunao to the city market every Thursdays.

“I encourage you to produce more. If you can increase your production, we can increase the schedule of hauling truck depending in your capacity to produce”, Mayor Goñi promised.

Before the turnover ceremony, DA-7 also conducted briefing on the proper handling and maintenance and the benefits of the tramline. DA-7 will schedule another briefing on the marketing of their products.

The tramline project implemented under the High Value Crops Development Program of the DA in cooperation with the LGU Bais City is the first tramline in Negros Oriental. (PR)
