Preparations for this year’s Dumaguete Adventure Marathon have begun.
The clock started the countdown to the Nov. 16 race, following the event launch last July 8 at the Robinson’s Place.
On hand to represent the possible sponsors for this year’s event was Charles Lim, president of the Selrahco Management Consultancy Group, which has been tapped as the marketing arm for the DAM.
Dr. Aparicio Mequi, founder of the race which started with the Leandro Sinco Challenge Races, said the DAM is the only marathon of its kind that has an advocacy for rice preservation.
Every year, participants in the marathon recite a pledge prior to gunstart that they would help preserve rice.
The event also serves as a culinary showcase for rice-based dishes, which is held after the marathon.
The 42-kilometer loop route begins at Robinsons-Perdices St.-Locsin St.-up to barangay Candau-ay-then towards barangay Camanjac-onwards to the Sibulan uphill trails of Calabnugan-Balili at about 600 meters above sea level-come out in Valencia, downhill through Pulangbato-Palinpinon, up again to Balabag road-steep uphill to Ogahong-turnaround at the Japanese Shrine in Sagbang about 600 meters above sea level, downhill to Tejero via Apolong-Balabag, up again towards Valencia-final downhill back to Robinsons.
Aside from the full marathon of 42 kilometers, there are also categories for the 21K half marathon; and the fun run: 10K, 5K, and 3K distances.
The event registration fees will be posted soon in the DAM website.
This year’s race director is Dennis Azcona. Race coordinator is Joel Balajadia.
Negros Oriental Sports Development Program (NOSDEP) head Paultom Paras is the technical adviser, with the full support of the Dumaguete Adventure Runners & Striders (DARS) and the MetroDumaguete Roadrunners Club (MDRC).
