Barangay Camanjac Dragon Warriors won the championship trophy in the Lupad Dumaguete Fiesta Open Chess Team Tournament.
The team is composed of Bacolod master Ted Ian Montoyo, former FEU varsity Vincent Baleña, Don Bosco’s Alfonzo Louis Olendo, and former NORSU varsity Dave Banalo.
At 2nd place is the Red Horse Team with Bernabe Tagulo, Teolito Carbonel, Fernando Salon, and John Rey Galon. Third place went to Barangay Camanjac Eagle Warriors with Adrian dela Cruz, John Vandam Gutib, Sara Francine Olendo and Engr. Rodelio Solon. Overtime Restobar of Tanjay got 4th place with players Genesis Borromeo, Jeffrey Alcantara, Richard Ruales and Engr. Luis Dael. Fifth place landed on Deep Blue with its players Roy Mercado, Engr. Arnold Somoza, Johnny Villaluz, and Rey Mercado.
Rounding up the Top 10 teams: defending champions Barangay Banilad, Silliman University Young Guns, St. Louis Pharmacy, Arriba Pamplona, and Sibulan Chess Corner.
Board honors went to Juno Davad of Qualfon, Jhorwin Viente of Banilad, and Camanjac’s Baleña and Solon.
Thirty five teams all over the Province and two teams from Siquijor joined the event.
The Biggest Delegation award went to Bais City, while the Best Represented award was won by Barangay Camanjac.
In the inaugural Dama event, Class A champion: Romualdo Catequista with runners-up Caloy Alvis, Jimmy Opsimas and Dodoy Tumabini.
Class B champion: Valentino Seblero with runners-up Ando Ramirez, Randy Ramirez and Osias Pino. A total of fifty players participated in the dama competition.
The opening ceremony was graced by the 68th Dumaguete Charter Anniversary Directorate Convenor Glynda T. Descuatan with Capt. Hilbert Arinaza and City Sports Officer Ike Villaflores.
The awarding ceremony was attended by City Tourism Officer Jacqueline Veloso-Antonio. The management of the contests was composed of Isagani Bana as Tournament director, Florendo Zamora as supervising arbiter, Bobby Torres as chief arbiter, arbiters Wilmier Barron and Erve Narciso, with Nestor Gonzales as emcee.
