Twelve tanods from barangay Daro recently graduated from a five-day Armed Combat Training as part of their peace and order initiatives.
According to Barangay Capt. Jovencio Tan Jr., the armed combat training was conducted to equip the barangay tanods with skills to maintain safety in the area.
The training included skills and techniques in Judo and Arnis.
Barangay Captain Tan also said the training can be applied as self-defense especially when the tanods are on duty in the evenings.
He said the barangay tanod brigade is vital to the local government’s development and progress. “It is one of the measures employed by the Barangay Peace and Order Committee whose main responsibility is to maintain peace and order in the barangay.”
Rall Valencia, the longest-serving tanod in the Barangay for almost 40 years now said that he and his fellow tanods enjoyed their physical trainings at night despite the cool breeze at the Pantawan.
Brgy. Captain Tan said they hope to continue this training annually for the barangay tanods. (Kaye Angelie Bacasnot & Cyrus Miguel Chua/SU Masscom)
