In a move aimed not only at helping pupils acquire values but also to deepen the moral and spiritual awareness of those who mould them, a Dauin district school recently launched a program that would address this need.

Bulak Elementary School, led by Principal Queenie E. Butalid, in coordination with the Dauin Ministerial Circle, a group composed of pastors coming from different denominations, set in motion its values education program during the school’s first Parent-Teacher Assembly held on the first Saturday of this month.

According to Butalid, the idea to put this into action came about after the school expressed a desire for change in the system amidst the demands, challenges and changes in the educational system. When the DMC, headed by its president, Pastor Daylinda T. Dequito, volunteered to take part in the implementation of the school’s Moral Values Formation Program, which was originally for the teaching force only, the school came up with the idea of including the parents as well as the pupils in the program.

In the assembly, DMC adviser Chaplain Andy O. Legaspi challenged the teachers and parents present to recover the diminishing moral values of our children, adding that the home and school must work together towards the total development of a child.

This values education program is also based on the belief that if a community works together in shaping the whole being of a child, cases of juvenile delinquencies and other existing social problems of society will somehow get lower.

The school and the DMC will start implementing the program in August. (PR)
