It’s not every day that Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental will play host to 10,000 people. That’s why this week will be an extraordinary week for us.
Negros Oriental Schools Division Supt. Salustiano Jimenez estimates 10,000 delegates–athletes, chaperones, officials and staff–to be in Dumaguete City from Sunday to Friday.
For sure, aside from the action-packed events, we could expect a lot of economic activity, especially in the services sector. There will be a huge demand for transportation, souvenir items, bottled water and food. We hope the public market will not run out of fish or meat for the duration of the CVRAA, even as we fear that prices would surely rise due to the big demand.
There may be more people in the streets, which will naturally bring about more traffic problems. It may be good advise for drivers to stretch their patience especially this week.
As if this is not enough, this is merely a dry run for April 2013’s Palarong Pambansa. The CVRAA is one of 14 regions which will be represented in the Palaro so we are probably expecting at least 50,000 people in Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental (they will be housed in public schools from Dumaguete to Dauin) for the Palarong Pambansa in April.
So let’s put our proverbial “best foot” forward as we welcome our guests to our beloved city and province.
May your visit further promote goodwill among the people of Region 7 and may this help us prepare for a bigger crowd in April.
