De Jesus addresses FU 2017 graduates

An expert in environmental sustainability is set to deliver the commencement address for at least 500 graduates of the 67-year-old Foundation University by March 18.

Ms. Agnes C. de Jesus, Chief Sustainability Officer of the First Philippine Holdings, an investment and management company whose major business is power generation and distribution, will share her inspirational points with a mix of her expertise in sustainable development to “The Finishers.”

Formerly, Ms. de Jesus served as Senior Vice President of the Energy Development Corporation from 2007 until 2013. Before holding the said post, she has worked for the said company for decades first as Consultant of the Environmental Management Group since 1980. Then she also worked for the Watershed Management Department first as Botanist, then became Coordinator and finally was promoted as its Manager in 1990.

Ms. de Jesus completed Bachelor of Science major in Botany and Master of Science in Botany major in Plant Physiology from the University of the Philippines – Diliman in 1975 and 1978, respectively.

During the commencement rites, Ms. de Jesus will also be conferred Doctor of Humanities, honoris causa, in recognition for her contribution and persistent work in the fields of Environmental Monitoring, Renewable Energy, Pollution Management, Biodiversity, Conflict Resolution, Corporate Governance, Compliance and Social Responsibility.

Over the years, Foundation University has been active in the pursuit of environmental sustainability. This advocacy was further validated when the institution won as national champion for the Most Eco-Friendly and Sustainable School in 2015 by the Environmental Management Board – Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
