The two high school children who were killed Thursday last week after they were accidentally buried in a sand quarry in barangay Calicanan, Pamplona, were buried Sunday.

Dr. Milagros Velez, schools division superintendent of Negros Oriental said the body of Kiram Kibate, 12, was laid to rest in barangay Amio, Sta. Catalina town last Sunday while the remains of the other fatality, Leo Jen Baya, 13, were laid to rest on Tuesday in the town of Pamplona.

The two high school children died while a third student, Bertrand Anfone, was hospitalized for internal injuries. They were sent to gather sand to be used in cementing the school’s muddy grounds when a wall in the sand quarry they were digging in collapsed and buried them.

Velez said two other children who had earlier been reported as missing, identified only as Ronald and Dante, have already been accounted for.

Velez said her office had given assistance to the families of the victims by providing the caskets and some money for the wake.

Velez said she has asked for clearance from the DepEd Regional Office to send new teachers to Calicanan High School Extension, saying she was worried over the safety of the teachers of the victims. The families of the victims, she said, had accepted their children’s fate although one father said he would file a case in court.
