Two heroes? Accolades were pouring in on Facebook for March Talairon last Sunday after he was honored by Gov. Roel Degamo for his heroic deed.

A post on the Governor’s Facebook account said Talairon single-handedly rescued a small boy from drowning at the Banica River during a raging flood last Sunday. Proof of the 15-year-old’s heroism was a swollen left eye and some bruises he sustained during the rescue effort.

The Governor held a dramatic awarding ceremony last Monday, honoring Talairon. In appreciation for his heroism, the Governor gave P20,000 to Talairon, a certificate of heroism, medicines as well as a promise of a full college scholarship after he graduates from high school (Talairon is still in 6th grade).

Two days later, another person came forward to say that Talairon was not actually the person who pulled the young boy from the river.

Pat Malene Delimos, 15, a sophomore Dumaguete City High School student, said she and Talairon were swimming in the flooded Banica River that day when they noticed the struggling boy. Talairon tried to save the young boy but he hit his face on a rock and was unable to continue. Delimos said it was she who rescued the young unnamed boy.

Delimos, accompanied by her mother, tried to see the Governor but apparently was unable to meet him.
