Dr. Salustiano Jimenez, the Department of Education division of schools superintendent of Negros Oriental, has called on teachers in the province to remain neutral as the country girds up for the May 13 mid-term elections.
Dr. Jimenez reiterated the call of Education Sec. Armin Luistro, who visited Negros Oriental recently, for teachers to focus instead on their functions and responsibilities for the electoral exercise.
Most, if not all, teachers are expected to serve as members of the Board of Election Inspectors during the May polls.
Sec. Luistro was in Dumaguete recently to preside over a meeting in preparation for this year’s Palarong Pambansa to be hosted by the province of Negros Oriental and the Dumaguete City Government.
The cabinet official had stressed during the meeting that he wants to see the teachers maintain neutrality during the elections despite their personal preferences and political leanings and concentrate instead on the preparations for the Palaro and making it a success.
This will be the first time Negros Oriental hosts the national games slated in April.
Dr. Jimenez said there are more than 11, 000 public school teachers in the province under his supervision. (PNA)
