The Department of Education (DepEd) expressed its gratitude to the Provincial Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) and the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (CDRRMC) for the successful holding of the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association meet that ended on Friday.

Regional director Dr. Carmelita Dulangon said the PDRRMC and the CDRRMC headed by Gov. Roel Ragay Degamo and Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria, respectively, have ensured the safety of the people and the athletes during the event, which was held during the height of typhoon “Pablo.”

Gov. Degamo has led the smooth implementation of a well-prepared and well-organized pre, during and post disaster activities that redound to the safety of the people and the athletes.

“Since there was no electricity in Dumaguete and other parts of Negros Oriental, Degamo provided all the playing venues with generator sets and even offered the delegates sacks of rice and sardines once their provisions were exhausted,” Dulangon said.

There were 19 delegations that participated in the regional meet, which was suspended for one day because of typhoon “Pablo.”

“The games would have been extended for another day, if not also for the help and cooperation of the private schools who allowed the use of their facilities,” Dulangon added.

This year’s CVIRAA champion was the delegation from Cebu City, followed by Cebu province, Bohol, Mandaue, Dumaguete and Negros Oriental.

According to Jimenez, Negros Oriental’s capability was tested in hosting sports events and DepEd is now preparing for the Palaro games next year. (PNA)
