The Department of Education has appointed new Schools Division superintendents for Dumaguete City, Bais City, and Negros Oriental.
Dumaguete Schools Division Supt. Dr. Gregorio Cyrus Elejorde, who had served Dumaguete for four years, was promoted as assistant regional director for Region 9 based in Pagadian City, and was replaced by Dr. Casiana Caberte from Bohol.
Caberte is a career official with a rank of Career Executive Service Officer VI. She will be formally installed on April 11 by Regional Director Dr. Salustiano Jimenez.
In his farewell speech, Superintendent Elejorde recalled the challenges faced by the DepEd Dumaguete Schools Division during his term. “We have made our journey together, and it was memorable because it was one of the darkest times not only in Philippine history but as well as global history,” said Elejorde, who was installed about five months before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. “It was the time that Chada Dumaguete managed also to shine the brightest in the dark,” he said.
During Elejorde’s tenure as superintendent, the Dumaguete City Division continuously reaped awards in regional and national competitions. The division topped the 2021 DepEd Region VII’s Search for the Most Outstanding Program Implementers, after winning in seven categories for DepEd Computerization Program, Brigada Opisina and 5S, Culture & Arts Program, Teacher Induction Program, and for the Water & Sanitation program. Dr. Elejorde was also named Outstanding Schools Division Superintendent in Region 7.
Meanwhile, the new Negros Oriental Schools Division superintendent is Dr. Neri Ojastro, who replaced Dr. Senen Paulin.
In Bais City, Supt. Bernadette Susvilla took over Schools Division Supt. Adolf Aguilar, who was reassigned to the Cebu Schools Division.
Dr. Aguilar received a warm send-off from his DepEd family and from the City of Bais, who gave him a Certificate of Commendation for his one-year of service to the City. (PR)
