Foundation University, organizers of the Dumaguete Adventure Marathon, announced the postponement of the DAM to Sunday, Nov. 17 from Nov. 10, due to Supertyphon Yolanda (Haiyan), which hit the Visayas starting Friday.
Dr. Aparicio H. Mequi, director of the University’s Institute of Youth Sports for Peace, said that while the storm was scheduled to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Saturday, postponing the race would be the best move to ensure that the race route is safe and passable.
Mequi said those who would be unable to make it for the Nov. 17 race because of this unforeseen weather disturbance are automatically registered for next year’s race on Nov. 16, 2014.
Powered by Sun Cellular, the Dumaguete Adventure Marathon 2013 is also held to celebrate the National Year of Rice. This race is now on its fifth year, and is designed to give runners a different running environment from the usual city streets.
Runners in the 42k category will run to Bacong town and start running an uphill route to the town of Valencia, where they will be treated to the breathtaking sights of nature and the scenic view of the nearby islands of Cebu, Bohol and Siquijor. The runners will also reach the Philippine-Japanese-American Amity Shrine in barangay Sagbang in Valencia, a historical memorial over 660 meters above sea level. This is dedicated to the soldiers of the three countries who paid the supreme sacrifice during the Second World War.
This race will start at 4:30 a.m. on Nov. 17 at the Dumaguete Business Park in barangay Calindagan in Dumaguete City, across Go Hotel, who, along with Cebu Pacific and Robinsons, are among the race’s major sponsors.
