Three poblacion barangays in Dumaguete City have been declared as drug-free, a validation of which is ongoing, in line with a directive from the provincial headquarters of the Philippine National Police.

Dumaguete PNP Chief Supt. Jovito Atanacio identified the three barangays as Poblacion 4, Poblacion 5, and Poblacion 7, all in the central district, which passed the criteria set by the PNP provincial command.

Poblacion 4 is headed by Capt. Jorge Tomas Ponce de Leon; Poblacion 5 is led by Cept. Nelson Ablir; Poblacion 7 is headed by Capt. Reynaldo Caballes.

Part of the process was the conduct of capability enhancement training among members of their respective Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils, and organization of house clusters to collect information and formulation of a watchlist, advocacy and education seminars.

In line with the BADAC declaration dated Feb. 3, documents were submitted for assessment and validation by the City Anti Drug Abuse Council headed by Mayor Felipe Remollo, that eventually passed CADAC Resolution No. 2 declaring the three barangays as drug-free.

Meanwhile, Dumaguete City ranked No. 1 throughout the Province under Oplan Double Barrel Alpha with 39 arrests of drug personalities among 67 all over the Province from Oct. 16 to Jan. 16 this year, or an 85 percent accomplishment.

Dumaguete had 220 new names recorded, Tanjay with 188, Bais had 159, Canlaon City 96, Guihulngan 95, and Bayawan City with 73.

On the other hand, Negros Island Region ranked No. 9 among 18 regions of the country in connection with the anti-drugs campaign, according to Supt. Atanacio who received the Medalya ng Kagalingan at the PRO-18 on Monday.

Sr. Insp. Rommel Luga of Bacong also received the Medalya ng Kagalingan award. (PNA/jfp/Juancho Gallarde)
