Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo is optimistic that the province of Negros Oriental and its capital Dumaguete will be the first choice for investors coming from Mindanao for several reasons, such as its growing economy.
Mayor Remollo said Thursday that Dumaguete is a vast growing economy, very proximate to Mindanao and is listed as among the top ten retirement places in the world and with peace loving people.
The Mayor said everybody knows the potentials of Dumaguete City that they have to ride on before it breaks out into a fast economy.
In fact, 10 to 15 years ago, many are surprised Dumaguete has all the major banks in the country, Remollo pointed out.
He pointed to the recent opening of the Rural Bank of Rizal in Dumaguete City on Wednesday, the first branch they have outside of Mindanao, with plans of expansion in other areas in Negros Oriental.
In welcoming the investment, the local chief executive is also working on a possible direct flight from Dumaguete to Davao City, instead of taking the board for Zamboanga del Norte as well as direct flight from Clark in Pampanga to Dumaguete.
Remollo recalled that during his stint as head of the Clark Freeport Zone in Angeles City, a feasibility study was conducted for a Dumaguete-Clark route. He said it is becoming more relevant today as Manila experiences traffic woes. He added that with the construction of a railway system between Manila and Clark in the province of Pampanga, travel would be quicker and more convenient. (Juancho Gallarde/PNA)
