In celebration of the National Arts Month in February, the National Committee on Dramatic Arts of the National Commission for Culture & the Arts, in cooperation with Datu Lubay Center, will bring together the best and emerging university and college-based theater groups for performance, dialogue and reflection, workshops and seminars, and a conference.
Dubbed Tanghal 2012, the festival will also feature community-based youth theater groups that engage higher educational institutions.
Carrying the theme Innovation and Tradition, Tanghal 2012 will be held in various parts of the country. In the Visayas region, Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental have been selected as the site where theater groups from various parts of the region, including Iloilo, Negros Occidental, Antique, Bohol, Negros Oriental, Cebu, Leyte among others will be taking part in this creative gathering. Tanghal 2012 in Dumaguete City begins on the 27th of February and runs till the 29th.
Local hosts are Silliman University and the Youth Advocates through Theater Arts. Tanghal 2012 Visayas Festival Director Dessa Quesada-Palm enthuses, “As a university town, we are so blessed to be graced by the young talents from all over the region, including our own. We hope that the creative exchange will allow our local groups to see the breadth and vibrancy of theater in so many educational institutions, and bolster our own efforts.”
