The city government of Dumaguete will launch a two-day Anti-Drug Summit in October through the Dumaguete City Anti-Drug Abuse Council in cooperation with the Rotary Club South.

Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria has tasked Leo Macalipay, DCADAC executive director, to supervise the summit scheduled Oct. 8 and 9 which is aimed at addressing the illegal drugs problem, said Syril Repe of the City Information Office in a news release.

There will be a forum with stakeholders with speakers from the Dangerous Drugs Board in Manila, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Region 7, the Philippine National Police Region 7, and medical practitioners.

On the same day, a motorcade is scheduled around the city streets in the afternoon, to be participated in by stakeholders, government officials, barangay officials, among others, with a program to follow at the Quezon Park.

The summit banners the theme Turn on to Vibrant Living, Turn off SAD (Smoking, Alcoholism, Drugs).

The summit is intended to increase awareness and involvement of the stakeholders in the fight against illegal drugs as police reports say that 90 percent of the victims of shooting incidents in Dumaguete are related to the illegal drugs trade. (PNA/PR)
