The Association of Barangay Councils in Dumaguete has joined calls by their counterparts in other parts of the country for the postponement of the October barangay elections.

ABC Federation President Raul Infante of Poblacion 8 said more than a thousand barangay captains have signed a manifesto in Cebu calling for the postponement of the barangay elections at a later date.

Infante, who sits as ex-officio member of the city council of Dumaguete said barangay councils all over the province and in the region are requested to pass resolutions for the postponement of the elections this year upon the recommendation of the national Liga president.

A recent three-day meeting in Cebu attended by barangay captains all over the region cited among others, the need for healing the wounds of the recent political exercise, and that instead of spending billions of pesos for the barangay elections, they suggested the use the money for more projects in the barangays.
