The Diocesan Electoral Board of the Diocese of Dumaguete is awaiting the delivery of the soft copies of the Certified Voters’ Lists from the Commission on Elections as the Oct. 23 synchronized barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan election is drawing near.

DEB convenor Msgr. Julius Heruela disclosed Wednesday that the CVL soft copies will be distributed to the leaders in the different parishes and municipalities to help verify whether the names of registered voters in the CVL are also found the Comelec’s hard copies.

According to Msgr. Heruela, they have already received communication from the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting and the National Movement for Free Elections on guidelines for the verification of the CVLs.

Once they receive the soft copies of the CVLs, the DEB will coordinate with local election officers for the verification process, he added.

This is to ensure that registered voters are listed down and can vote during the election process, as it is a common problem during any electoral exercise that many voters complain of their names missing from the official list of registered voters, Heruela said.

During an election, the Comelec, through the election officers or their staff, will post the hard copies at the different voting centers.

Meanwhile, Msgr. Heruela said that there is no need for the DEB to deploy poll watchers during the barangay and SK election because voting and counting are done manually at the barangay level unlike the electronic regular elections.

Msgr. Heruela also reminded the voters to check their names in the CVLs prior to the elections so they would not waste their time on election day searching for their names and their assigned precincts. (With reports from Judy Flores Partlow/PNA)
