Diocese of Dgte mourns death of priest

The Diocese of Dumaguete is mourning the death of Rev. Fr. Victor Ablir Fontejon who passed on early Wednesday due to a lingering illness. Fr. Fontejon was 66.

He was born on Dec. 28, 1949 to Santiago and Edilberta Fontejon, and hails from Sibulan, Negros Oriental.

Fr. Vic Fontejon completed his BAin Philosophy at San Carlos Seminary College in Cebu, then his BA in Sacred Theology at Seminario Mayor de San Carlos, in Mabolo, Cebu.

He was ordained a priest on April 7, 1976 by Most Rev. Epifanio Surban at the St. Catherine of Alexandria Cathedral.

He served in the Diocese of Dumaguete in various capacities: April 23, 1976 assistance parish priest in San Carlos City; June 9, 1978 parish priest of Santo Niño Parish, Jimalalud, Negros Oriental; June 16, 1984 parish priest of Sto. Niño Parish in Mabinay, Negros Oriental; Dec. 14, 1989 parish priest of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Siquijor, Siquijor; June 2, 1989 school director of Assisi High School in Siquijor; Aug. 2, 1989 member of the Presbyteral Council;

June 15, 1993 parish priest of Our Lady of Divine Providence Parish in Maria, Siquijor; June 18, 1997 parish priest of St. Vincent Ferrer Parish in Larena, Siquijor; March 26, 2002 parish priest of St. Isidore the Farmer Parish in Lazi, Siquijor; Aug. 19, 2002 episcopal vicar of Siquijor; April 29, 2005 school director in Lazi, Siquijor; April 11, 2006 parish priest of St. Augustine of Hippo Parish in San Juan, Siquijor; April 15, 2014 parish priest of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish in Enrique Villanueva, Siquijor.

His body lies in state in their residence until July 27 in Sibulan. His remains shall be brought to the St. Anthony of Padua Parish Church in Sibulan for an overnight vigil until July 28, where a funeral mass will be celebrated at 1 pm, followed by the burial. (PNA)
