A resident of Baranggay Looc bagged first place in The Return of the Doble Cara, one of the highlights of the 63rd Charter Day and Fiesta Celebration held Sunday at the City Public Market.

Arnold Dumahil of Zone 4, Looc, sang Lagkaw and bested the 12 other hopefuls of the contest. The 2nd place was awarded to Elmer Noay of Canday-ong who sang Pasayawa ko Day while the 3rd place was given to Hanover Leonor, also from Looc, who sang Endless Love.

Dumahil received P3, 500; Noay with P2, 500; and Leonor got P1, 500. All three also received trophies for bagging the top 3 spots.

Non-winners also received P500 for participating in the said contest.

The first Doble Cara was held only in 2009. However, due to public demand, it was brought back this year to entertain Dumagueteños, said City Information Officer Steve Gabriel.

The event was sponsored by Dumaguete City government through Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria, the Federation of Dumaguete City Urban Poor, Federation of Dumaguete Motorcycle Operators & Drivers Association and the Sectoral Desks Office.

Meanwhile, despite inclement weather, 55 fishermen participated in the 2nd ‘Birik-Birik’ Fishing Festival held Saturday at the Rizal Boulevard in connection with the 63rd Charter Day and Fiesta Celebration.

City Tourism Officer Jessica Layumas said that while last year the fishermen had a hard time because of the heavy downpour, this year it was the strong winds that challenged the participants in catching many fish.

But instead of selling their catch, the fishermen gave them to the organizers, Layumas said.

The first prize went to Jackson Ybañez with weight of catch of one kilo and 940 grams; 2nd and 3rd places went to Edwil Libradilla with a total of one kilo and 660 grams and Wilfredo Landay with 520 grams, respectively. The prizes were: 5 thousand pesos for first prize, P3 thousand for the second prize, and P2 thousand for the third prize.

The festival, held 6am to 12noon had the support of the Filipino Anglers and the Rescue and Disaster Council of Dumaguete City.
