About 500 medical practitioners representing 50 medical schools across the country will meet in a 3-day national convention on February 5-7 in Dumaguete City to discuss the newly passed Universal Health Care Law to be hosted by the Silliman University Medical School.
Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo lauded the passage of the Universal Health Care Law as a “boon for ordinary Filipinos and improves the prospects of getting affordable and quality health care benefits and services that have eluded them for so long.”
Mayor Remollo stressed that “health Care is a human right, not a privilege.”
He said that law’s noble and laudable objectives of gradually enrolling every Filipino to PhilHealth guarantees that even the poorest of the poor will have access to better health services that they deserve. UHC law also guarantees that health facilities and hospitals will be upgraded in underserved areas of the country.

The stated purpose of this year’s annual convention is to discuss means and courses of action to address gaps in the health care system; on how the government can maximize the benefits of the law and to share the best practices among medical schools and hospitals that could ultimately save lives
Mayor Remollo noted that as practicing and future health care professionals, the stated purposes of this year’s annual convention is truly timely and relevant. A major step to ensure that we can prevent unnecessary burden and sadly deaths of the most vulnerable and marginalized.
Aware that the delegates have included in their itineraries visit of the famed tourist destinations of Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental, Mayor Remollo assures the organizers that he will coordinate with relevant agencies to ensure their safety and convenience. (PIO)
