The Department of Labor & Employment in Negros Oriental will celebrate Kasambahay Day on Sunday afternoon from 1 to 5pm, Jan. 26 at Quezon Park.
In a Jan. 23 letter sent to Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria, DOLE Provincial Director Vivencio Lagahid Sr. enjoined the City Hall employees to enroll their kasambahay (house helpers) in the mandatory provision of benefits from the Social Security System, Philippine Health Insurance Corp. , and Home Development Mutual Fund/Pag-IBIG.
The Domestic Workers Act (Republic Act 10361), signed into law by President Aquino, entitles house helpers to benefits such as a set minimum wage, leaves with pay, and enrollment in insurance programs.
Lagahid said the kasambahay who will register at the one-stop shop desk will receive free 3R size pictures from the photo booths of TIPC and SirDonz Photography, libreng tawag at the TIPC booth, free haircut and massage at the 302nd Brigade booth of the Philippine Army, film showing, and a chance to join the parlor games and win prizes.
The activity is in coordination with the Department of Interior & Local Government, SSS, Pag-IBIG, PhilHealth, Dumaguete City government, Public Employment Service Office, St. Paul University, Sir Donz Photography, Philippine Army, and the Diocese of Dumaguete. (City PIO)
