Our attitude and the way we look at life determines what kind of existence we will have in this world. It is at the core of every success and letdown that we have encountered or will encounter in the future. It can either make us or break us!
Many of us may not be conscious of it but our attitude has so much control in our lives, but the good thing is — we can control our attitude and how we see things surrounding us and the things that happen to us.
Our attitude shapes the way we feel about people and situations. Meaning, our actions and decisions, are really the outcomes of our attitude. It is our attitude towards others and to the entire universe that determines what the outcomes will be and how these outcomes will affect us in return. If we have a positive mindset (which correspondingly produces good attitudes), then we will have encouraging, pleasant, and satisfying outcomes. It follows that when we have a negative frame of mind (which generates very bad attitudes), we likewise gain all sorts of failures, disappointments, and misfortunes.
In short, what we think is what we get.
Unconstructive attitudes are generated from thinking about depressing and unhelpful thoughts again and again until they become a significant component of our subliminal mind. Because they are imbedded all the time in our waking moments (including times when we are asleep), they become routine and normal to us. We don’t even realize it because it has been with us for decades.
When we have a bad attitude, we actually can expect failures and misfortunes to happen. That subconscious expectation turns us into magnets for disappointments and catastrophes. Before we know it, it has become a sadistic sequence — we expect the nastiest, so we get the pits. Our negative viewpoints have been strengthened and the bad attitudes become shatterproof.
So, how can we transform our thoughts and create a positive mind-set?
Essentially, it takes so much work, just like anything else that has value. Anything that is worth having and worth keeping takes a lot of work and patience.
In order to have an encouraging and positive attitude, in order for us to be able to look at the bright side of life, we need to change our subconscious thinking. How can we achieve this? By examining and evaluating each thought we have until such time that positive thinking becomes habit. We’re actually just substituting a previous pattern with a healthy practice, similar to trading the habit of smoking with regular exercise.
But many of us will say —“it’s unrealistic to stop thinking of negative thoughts, adverse situations are all around us, they’re everywhere and they occur every minute. That is reality. They surface in daily life all the time.”
Yes, that is true. Adverse situations come in our lives. We just cannot stop them because they are part of human reality. They surface and what’s agonizing is that they surface at times when we least expect them. However, while we cannot stop them from surfacing and re-emerging in life, it is really our attitude and the mindset we have that will determine how these adversities will be treated. It is our thinking that will make the situation a positive or a negative one. We must therefore realize that we are the ones who are in control of our thinking and how we feel. That is one power we have that nobody can take away from us.
Therefore, if we want to be happy and gay — let’s take control of our attitudes and our state of mind. Sooner or later, we will be taking control of the outcomes, the kind of outcomes that we’ve always wanted to have.
