Two business groups in Negros Oriental were awarded for their contributions to the advancement of science and technology.
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) handed out plaques of recognition to the Negros Oriental Business Development Foundation, Inc. (NOBDF) and Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NOCCI) for their help towards socio-economic growth through science, technology, and innovation.
The awarding was held July 19, which highlighted the Kapihan sa PIA forum held by DOST provincial office here and the Philippine Information Agency to mark the 2012 National Science and Technology Week celebration.
Edward Du, NOCCI president and NOBDF board secretary, received the award from Jesus Zamora, DOST-7 executive manager for Technical Support Services and Roslyn Tambago,DOST Negros Oriental assistant director.
NOCCI President Edward Du said they have been a partner of DOST for more than 10 years.
“So far, we are very happy with this partnership,” he said during the forum.
Du thanked DOST for the recognition and vowed to work harder.
“This award challenges us and inspires us to work harder,” he said.
He also thanked other stakeholders like government-line agencies and the local government units (LGUs) for their support to NOCCI’s endeavors.
NOCCI is an organization of all businessmen of all industries, regardless of its size.
“But our mandate now is to focus more on the small businesses because the big businesses can already take care of themselves,” he said.
He said the micro-small medium enterprises (MSME) need NOCCI’s help.
“Starting this year we will focus on small entrepreneurs,” he said. (RMN-PIA 7, Negros Oriental)
