The Department of Science & Technology here in Negros Oriental recently provided P1,060,000-worth of technological assistance to Villahermosa Pancit Canton Manufacturing in Basay through its Small Enterprise Technological Upgrading Program (SETUP).
DOST Negros Oriental Provincial S&T Director Atty. Gilbert Arbon gave the assistance for processing equipment to Wilson Villahermosa, president and CEO fo the pancit canton manufacturing business.
In return, Villahermosa gave 37 postdated checks payable to DOST Negros Oriental as payment for the monthly rentals of the technological assistance with zero interest.
The pancit canton company starts paying DOST one year after the release of the assistance.
All equipment will remain the property of DOST for the three-year period, afterwhich, and after paying 0.5 percent of the total cost of the equipment termed as option-to buy fee, the noodle processor will assume ownership of the processing equipment.
Included in the technological assistance are various processing equipment, product testing, and enhanced packaging and labelling.
Villahermosa Pancit Canton Manufacturing is located in Poblacion, Basay, Negros Oriental. It manufactures and sells fresh noodles (fresh miki), pancit canton, and dried noodles.
The local noodle manufacturer was able to defend his project proposal before the DOST VII Regional Technical Evaluation Committee which recommended funding approval to the DOST VII Regional Director.
SETUP is a nation-wide strategy encouraging -micro, small, and medium enterprises to adopt technological innovations to improve their products, services, operations, and increase their productivity and competitiveness.
